Black CSCS Cards: How Do I Get One? [2020 Edition]

CSCS cards are a requirement for any person looking to work within the construction industry. From Labourers to Senior Level staff, everyone needs to prove their competence before entering an active construction site.

The black card with-in the Construction Skills Certification Scheme is for any person looking to hold a manager’s position. Holding the card demonstrates that you’re experienced and can hold a management position on a construction site, whilst working safely.

CSCS cards are not a legal requirement, however holding one is very desirable in the construction industry, especially those at the management level. The majority of all large construction companies will make holding a valid CSCS card, no matter the level, a mandatory requirement.

If you’re currently in a manager’s position or looking to add new skills to your tool belt, gaining a black CSCS card is a great career choice.

Being equipped with a Black CSCS Card increases your job prospects and can increase your earning potential. In addition to these, you will prove to your employer that you are an important asset, especially as many construction companies, big and small, are working towards being 100% CSCS competent.

Construction companies in the UK have strict guidelines to abide by when it comes to employee safety on site. Companies need to demonstrate compliance towards Construction Design and Management Regulations (CDM) by making sure their employees are skilled and working safely. Being a black card holder makes you a CDM compliant employee.

If you are looking to further your knowledge & networking, holding a Black CSCS Card is a great pathway to obtaining a CIOB Membership, which is highly regarded within the construction industry.

Although the path to obtaining a CSCS Black Card can be long, depending on the NVQ you take, they are definitely a worthwhile pursuit & a great step in furthering your career within the Construction industry.
